NEW YEAR’S EVE

If you haven’t spent the evening of December 31 at THE WASHINGTON COUNTY PLAYHOUSE, you need to. It is a full evening (and early morning) of good food and fun. Dinner includes the full salad buffet and our fresh baked Michette rolls, the hot buffet, Roast Tenderloin of Beef with Bearnaise Sauce at the carving station, lobster tails with drawn butter and a super-duper special dessert. Then, a one-act comedy by J. Paul Clifford entitled THE HOG MAWS MURDER! After that, LIQUORED-UP LUCILLE’S POP/ROCK BONANAZ featuring pop and rock music from the forties, fifties, sixties and seventies. Then, at midnight a champagne (or spakling cider, your choice) toast to the new year, a continetal breakfast with mini-Danish, bagels and cream cheese, cheeses, crackers, fruit and who-knows, and dancing until you are ready to leave. It is a fun time, and it is so reasonably priced that you’ll feel like you made the wisest financial decision of 2012 just because you chose to join us. Call and reserve now.

Looking Back is Over. Looking Forward Begins.

Writer-Director Jeffrey Perry Czerbinski did a superb job both with his original script and the staging of A LOOK BACK. Audiences and the cast loved it. Maybe we can do something like it again at the 30th anniversary celebration. But, the show is over tonight, Saturday the 28th. BIG RIVER will be opening a week later than originally planned. We’ve had to replace the character Jim. And we are proud to announce that Andre Brown, a very talented and superb actor, well-known among Potomac Playmakers’ audiences will be stepping in to do the role. However, he is just getting ready to open in PIRATES OF PENZANCE at The Apollo Civic Theater in Martinsburg, and that production wraps the weekend we were to open. Hence the one-week delay. But, it will be well worth the wait. And for those of you who have opening weekend reservations, we will contact you soon in an effort to accommodate you some other weekend during the run. See you soon, and we hope you bring someone with you.

28TH SEASON IS IN PLACE!

And in a few days I should be receiving acknowledgment of receipt of the royalties and I will be posting the names of all 6 shows on the “2012-2013 SEASON” page of this web site. It’s a really exciting season and I, for one, am really enthusiastic about it. And now I know what I’m getting my wife for Christmas…a season ticket to The Washington County Playhouse. I know she’ll love it.

A LETTER FROM A SUBSCRIBER

Don Spickler, a long time supporter of the arts, and a season subscriber to The Playhouse has asked us to send this letter out, intended for current subscribers, but all are invited to join in the effort to bring new and more folks to the shows.
Thanks Don.

April 17, 2012
Fellow Season Ticket Holders:
Several months ago a group of season ticket holders pledged to help the Washington County Playhouse stay active for another season. We agreed that the playhouse could stay solvent if we could attract more patrons to the performances. The V.I.P. ticket plan was developed in response to that pledge and each season ticket holder was asked to invite friends and relatives who would be new or reintroduced to the Playhouse and in return these guests would be given the opportunity to secure a special V.I.P. discount ticket for future performances. We agreed to run this campaign during the last two performances of the current season and the first performance of the new season with corresponding discounts on ticket price.
We are now half way through the promotional period and we need to really make a strong effort in the next few weeks to make this promotion successful. To date there have been only 24 V.I.P. passes secured. We need your help to make this promotion a success. Please join Mary Jane and me and ask as many friends and relatives as you can to join you at either “A Look Back” (a very good show I might add), or “Big River” and take advantage of the V.I.P. offer. Plan to come to an extra show if you need to make it convenient for your guests.
With your help, we know we can make this a success. Looking forward to seeing you and several guests at the Washington County Playhouse!!
Thanks,
Don Spickler

A LOOK BACK

“If this house isn’t packed every weekend, they’re missing a great show!”

So said one of our guests while exiting on Saturday night after the show. Some of your favorite performers from past years performing some of your favorite songs and scenes from some of your favorite shows from the past 27 seasons. And, taking a chance on overusing one of my favorite words, this show might just become your favorite show from this season. Don’t miss it. Call for reservations.

A Magical Trip

Imagine, if you will, a young boy’s guided tour of the history of a theater. That young boy is Charlie Paulson. His guides are famous figures from history, but not JUST from history. They are famous people from history who have also been portrayed on our stage over the past 27 seasons. That’s the story of A LOOK BACK. And it is a compelling and entertaining story, as well as the kind of entertainment that your entire family will enjoy. Reserve now.

Coming Soon…

What’s coming soon? More entries to the weblog. My router passed away recently, so I’ve been using an “air card” for all of my Internet work. And, in a word, the product stinks! So, I’ve been reluctant to try to get anything done. But, my new router is being installed this weekend so, I can be back at the keyboard at will next week. Thanks for your patience.
